Concrete Jungle Radio · Community Service

No one in this borough suffers in silence.

Nadie en este barrio sufre en silencio.

The Bronx Resource Desk turns a radio station into a reference desk: verified, current, plain-language information about food, housing, health, benefits, transit, work, and civic life — broadcast in English and Spanish by Concrete Jungle Radio, and checked against official sources before it is ever aired or posted. Where information is the barrier, the Desk removes it. Where language is the barrier, the Desk teaches across it.

The Founder’s Why

Why this Desk exists

Hear why this work exists. When our founder was first planted here in the Bronx, he could not speak Spanish — and doors closed on him that should have opened. Some closed them to be cruel, using language as a weapon — when our differences should have been celebrated, they were weaponized instead.

Y él lo dice claro: no se lo deseo a nadie. Ni al que habla inglés, ni al extranjero recién llegado. Nadie debe quedarse sin apoyo por culpa de un idioma.

So now the door opens from the other side — palabra por palabra — so nobody in this borough stands outside, the way he once did. We are one big family — different costumes, same heart. So we raise the bar, and we level the playing field.

The Founder’s Why is spoken in every episode of La Palabra del Campeón, the Desk’s broadcast language course.

One Desk, Eight Lanes

The work, lane by lane

Each lane is a standing service commitment, bound by one rule: verify first, publish second, never print a guess. Statuses below are exactly where each lane stands today — this page does not announce work that is not built yet.

On Air

1 · Language Access — La Palabra del Campeón

A broadcast language course in a warm Spanglish voice: one practical scene of Bronx daily life per episode, at an elder’s pace. Five episodes are produced and in the station’s rotation.

Platform Live

2 · Benefits + Food Access

Free food mapped by neighborhood, and benefits explained in plain language. The first platform is live: 40 listings — food pantries and meal sites, HRA benefits offices, farmers markets, grocery stores — plus 7 verified online food finders, every one checked against an official or primary source on October 29, 2026.

Segment On Air

3 · Housing Navigation

Eviction-defense routes, the right-to-counsel fact, shelter intake, NYCHA repairs and waitlists. The station’s standing housing segment, Keys in Hand, already airs Tuesdays and Thursdays; the full navigation content is in build.

Alerts On Air

4 · Transit

Fares, OMNY and Fair Fares, Access-A-Ride — and live service information. The station already airs live MTA service-alert updates in its drive-time programming; the lane’s explainers are in build.

In Build

5 · Health Navigation

Free and sliding-scale clinics, mental-health lines (988), maternal health, addiction recovery — framed as navigation, never diagnosis. Building on the same verification model the food platform proved.

Next In Sequence

6 · Elder Digital Safety

Scam and fraud literacy for seniors: the current cons, the hang-up rule, and what the station’s number is — and is not. The next lane in the build sequence.

Directory Live

7 · Work + Small Business

Job-search help and a public Bronx business directory — the directory is already live on the station’s website, listing Bronx businesses free at the basic level. Lane content is in build.

In Build

8 · Civic — La Agenda

Nonpartisan civic information inside the station’s Spanish-language hour: voter registration, ID and document explainers, tenant and worker rights, school and public meetings. Information only.

Why Verification Is The Whole Job

The guide we checked was wrong. So we check.

In October 2026, the Desk took a printed Bronx food-resources guide — assembled from established institutional sources and handed out in the community — and verified every entry against official and primary sources. Of 29 food-site entries, only 6 were exactly right as printed. Twelve had moved, changed days, or changed numbers. Six appeared closed — one had shut in 2014 and was still being handed to the public as a place to apply for help. Every benefits phone number in the guide was stale.

A resident who follows a dead number or walks to a closed pantry does not conclude a guide was out of date. Too often, they conclude help is not for them — and they stop asking. Every listing the Desk publishes carries the date it was checked and a call-ahead line, because even good information ages. Closed and unverifiable listings are left off entirely. Where sources disagree, the disagreement is printed honestly rather than smoothed over.

The Station Behind The Desk

Concrete Jungle Radio

Concrete Jungle Radio has broadcast continuously since October 11, 2026 — free to any listener with a phone or a browser, from the Bronx, streaming worldwide. The Desk’s work rides inside its regular programming: broadcast segments, a published Resources page, and print for the places the internet does not reach. The service is free, requires no account and no purchase, and arrives in the two languages the Bronx speaks at home.
